How to get to Jibacoa - BY BUS

The most recommended national bus line in Cuba is VIAZUL. They have a fleet of modern air-conditioned buses equipped with toilet, reclining seats, and a video system. There’s a Viazul bus station (terminal de Omnibus) in every major Cuban cities and a few smaller towns and tourist areas. They are manned by two professionals, the driver and the ticket/baggage handler.

The closest you can get to Jibacoa with Viazul is the city of Matanzas which is about 45 km (30 mi) from the Jibacoa beach-resort. From the bus station in Matanzas to Playa Jibacoa you’re only option would be to take a taxi (private or government-own); cost should be around 15 USD one-way.

You can book Viazul tickets in advance through their website (www.viazul.wetransp.com) or by phone; or directly at the bus station. Tickets purchased on-site are payable in USD, while tickets purchased online are charged in $USD.

There’s another national bus line called ASTRO which caters mostly to Cubans who pay in “Peso Nacional” (CUP), foreigners pay in USD. Astro is less expensive but has fewer seats available to foreigners, and is less reliable and punctual than Viazul. There old fleet has recently being renewed with new YuTong buses coming from China, so they are now as comfortable as Viazul buses but without the toilet. You cannot buy Astro tickets online.
