Parque Escaleras de Juraco (Escaleras de Juraco Park)
Located about 40 km southwest of the Jibacoa beah-resort, this park is a protected area containing forests, caves and strangely shaped limestone cliffs. This bucolic oasis features impressive miradors (lookouts) over the Mayabeque province and many trails for hiking through the hilly and rocky landscape. In addition to its rich flora and fauna, the park is also known for its caves system which includes: The Cueva del Cura (150 meters) one of the deeper caves in Western Cuba, the Cueva del Aguila where Cuban sculptress Ana Mendieta carved in stone her work called "Las Mujeres de Piedra" (Stone Women), the historical Cueva de Aguirre where Major General José María Aguirre set up a strategic command post during the Cuban War of Independence (weekend guided tours available). Other caves include Sitio Perdido, Cueva del Jagüey, Cueva de la Yagruma, Cueva de los Bandoleros Cueva Palenque de los Cimarrones. The park has a tourist center where you'll find a small hotel, a coffee-shop, a viewpoint, an amusement park and a restaurant.
